Ev Opens Up To Nightline.

“You have to walk away because I have to protect myself.”

–Evelyn Lozada

Evelyn Lozada the star of Basketball Wives, who recently filed for divorce from her husband of six-weeks Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson, is opening up for the first time to ABC’s Nightline about the domestic violence incident that changed her life.

Watch the video below.

Lozada and Johnson met on Twitter and their world-wind romance was told in front of the cameras on the VH1 series Basketball Wives.

Now the couple’s divorce comes after the former player for the Dolphins allegedly headbutted her.

Ochocinco & Evelyn Lozada.

From ABCNews:

On Aug. 11, Lozada was taking groceries out of a car that Johnson used to drive to football practice when she said she found a bag in the backseat with a toothbrush holder and a Walgreens receipt for a box of condoms inside. The receipt was dated July 20, she said, three weeks after they were married.

When Johnson came home later that evening, Lozada said she got into his car to confront him about the receipt and threatened to leave him.

“And then the next thing I know, he grabbed me by here [pointing to her head] and he head-butted me,” Lozada said. “I felt blood coming down my face… and I looked at him and I said, ‘You just head-butted me?’ And it just — everything just felt if it was in slow motion.”

Johnson has refuted the incident.

In fact he says that he never headbutted Lozada rather she headbutted him.

The New York native and shoe boutique owner said she still loves Chad but he needs help and that they will never get back together.

“I don’t think any woman should ever have to feel like that or be fearful of her husband.”

After the incident Ochocinco lost his job with the Dolphins and the former couple’s reality series ‘Ev & Ocho’ slated to premiere on September 3rd was canned by VH1.

(Also: Take a look at this TMZ reports Johnson recently got a tattoo of his soon to be ex-wife’s face on his leg.)

Fans of Johnson or Lozada, do you view them in a different light now?

Do you think Johnson’s career can recover from this incident?

Should either one of them be focused on career right now?

#ConversationStarter: Aaliyah Dana Haughton Revisited.

20120807-145552.jpg

Eleven years after her death, ‘Baby Girl’ has returned to the music scene and may have a new album in the works.

Actor turned rapper and Aaliyah fan , Aubrey ‘Drake’ Graham has hinted at something special coming for months and now he has released her new song ‘Enough Said,’ and is featured on a verse of the track.

Take a listen. Explicit. (Listen to a version with the rap edited out here ►AaliyahAlways)

Mixed reaction is coming from fans.

Some love it, while others say the cussing is over the top and Aaliyah would never laden her music with so much cursing, if any.

Like the tweet above, some think Missy Elliott and Timbaland should work on the album seeing that they knew the ‘Are You That Somebody’ songstress best and Drake did not know her at all.

Aaliyah & Timbaland

Producer Timbaland recently told New York’s Power 105.1:

“I don’t know what’s going on. The proper way to do that would be for me, him and Missy to be all on the record. For it to be on his record, that would not be right.”

In a recent turn of events, Aaliyah’s official twitter account tweeted that Timbaland will work on two tracks for the album. There is still no word on Elliott.

However, while her Twitter account confirms the album, her brother denied it on her official facebook page and followed up with a question to fans about releasing an Aaliyah album.

Only time will tell if an album really happens or not.

Josh’s Note: One qualm with the song—the cursing. Aaliyah’s music was not filled with cursing.

I do not necessarily have problem with Drake appearing on the album or helping produce it. However, if a album is produced. It is also only right to have both her family and those closest to her involved in the project because they are forever hers and she is forever theirs.

Her music was something anyone at any age could listen to whether they were 5 or 80. It was something anyone could relate to be it the beat or the lyrics.

As I told my radio colleague when I first heard the song, out of respect for her and her artistry it would have been smart and best to stay in lane with who she was, who she is.

Aaliyah is a classic R&B artist with a modern feel whose music is timeless.

Rest in Peace Baby Girl. 1979-2001
May You Live Forever Through Music.

#ConversationStarter: Men Suffering For Fashion?

20120717-005342.jpg

Marc Jacobs once wore women’s high heels to see how women suffer for fashion but that saying may no longer be exclusive to women.

A new study reveals men’s skinny jeans are costing a pretty penny and not just from the department store.

The study looked at two-thousand British men and found one out of every ten men received side effects from donning skinny jeans.

From that ten-percent, half said they had groin discomfort, over a quarter had bladder issues and one in five suffered with twisted testicles, which could require immediate surgery.

”Please don’t put style before health,” Dr. Hilary Jones told The Daily Telegraph.

Jones is working with TENA to showcase the dangers of the fashion trend

Other issues found were urinary tract infections, low sperm counts and fungal irritations.

Rest In Peace, America’s Sheriff.

The man who kept the peace in the quirky town of Mayberry has passed away.

Andy Griffith who starred in the self-titled show about a man who was sheriff by day, keeping order in the town, and a single dad by night, rearing his son Opie in the right direction has died.

Griffith & Ron Howard

The show was a hit for eight seasons on CBS.

Ron Howard, Griffith’s TV son, tweeted:

Griffith would later play, attorney at law, Ben Matlock in the 1980s.

Griffith was 86.

Also several actors, who worked with him, remember the man they called friend.

Andy Griffith & Barbara Eden

Barbara Eden, who played the manicurist in a episode of ‘The Andy Griffith Show,‘ remembers Andy.

Paul Campbell, co-star in Griffith’s last film, reflects on Andy.

Josh’s Note: Thanks for the laughs. Thanks for the lessons.

Rest in Peace, America’s Sheriff—Sheriff Andy Taylor.

P.S. Stumbled across this really nice tribute, ‘What Andy Griffith Means To Me,’ from a fan and thought I would share it.

The 368 surviving Marines of Montford Point received the highest civilian honor in Washington, D.C. today—the congressional gold medal.

The men received the medal 63 years after the training camp closed in 1949.

Montford Point was a training camp exclusively created for African-Americans in 1942 during World War II.

“They answered our nation’s call at a time when our society was deeply divided along racial lines,” Rep. Corrine Brown said in a statement.

The 368 will also be honored, tomorrow morning, in parade given by the Commandant of the Marine Corps at the Washington Marine Barracks.

#ConversationStarter: Tia Mowry Is Out ‘The Game’ But Lauren London Is Ready To Suit Up.

Image

Meet The Game’s Newest Cast Member: Lauren London.

Lauren London will be one of the new central players coming onto the field for BET’s The Game.

TVLine.com reports London will play the role of Kiera, a former child star, who is currently starring in a Cosby-like sitcom.

London’s role comes following the exit of the series two main characters—Derwin & Melanie Davis (played by Pooch Hall and Tia Mowry).

London’s other TV credits include shows such as Single Ladies and Reed Between the Lines.

BET has yet to fill the role of Bryce, an all-star running back, who will play opposite London’s character.

#ConversationStarter: Beyond Politics.

First Lady Michelle Obama & Beyonce Knowles grace the cover of Vogue.

This opinion piece, Mrs. O and Beyoncé: A Problematic Love Fest?, has shown up in my social media feeds for the last couple of days so let’s start a conversation here on ‘unscripted.’

Recently, First Lady Michelle Obama and Beyoncé have been exchanging pleasantries with each other.

‘The Pink Panther’ star wrote a public letter to the First Lady expressing how grateful she is that her daughter can grow up in a world where someone in the highest office in the land resembles her.

Mrs. Obama responded to Beyoncé in a tweet, “thank you for the beautiful letter and for being a role model who kids everywhere can look up to.”

Days later People Magazine asks First Lady Obama if she could trade places with anyone in the world who would it be?

“Gosh. If I had some gift, I’d be Beyoncé, I’d be some great singer,” the First Lady responded.

The First Lady’s comment caused commentators across the web to take issue from Loop21 to The Root.com.

Now they are facing backlash from readers—The Root.com’s Demetria L. Lucas in particular.

According to Lucas, Mrs. Obama’s admiration of the pop star “sends a damaging, demeaning and dangerous message to women and girls.”

Lucas characterized Beyoncé’s success to the following:

Vibe: Meet Your New Role Models: Kandi, Tamar, Evelyn & Chrissy (Reality Stars).

She is only slightly more role model-esque than three of the four reality stars ironically gracing the current cover of Vibe. Let’s keep it funky, folks: Beyoncé’s talent — the one that’s made her a multimillionaire and a household name — is the ability to habitually line-step on the Madonna-whore dichotomy. That is to say, she has mastered the art of moving her tush like a stripper and her hips like a porn star, and she still manages to be perceived as a lady and some sort of feminist. Women who have done the same or less have faced more criticism.

Her lyrics fluctuate between empowerment lite and sending women nearly back to the June Cleaver dark ages. For every “Me, Myself and I,” “Irreplaceable” or “Love on Top,” there are songs like “Cater 2 U,” where Bey (during her Destiny’s Child days) does everything for her man, from untying his shoestrings to offering a manicure.

The excerpt above is what stood out to me, several of my colleagues, and many in the social media sphere.

It was a hot topic is the WUMR (one of the stations where I work) studio yesterday and both of my female counterparts brought up how she attacked what Beyoncé wears and how she dresses on stage. Both highlighted that she wears more clothing than the average back up dancer in a hip-hop video and when Lucas compares the ‘Obsessed’ actress’ songs she is comparing song lyrics from two different eras in Knowles’ life.

Before I ask for you to chime in, see what those around the web have said:

While the tweeters are outraged the facebookers run the gambit saying, ‘that’s your opinion, they’re friends, cool, next topic.’ ►See Screenshot Click Here.

Josh’s Note: To characterize the singer, the actress, the entertainer, the designer and the businesswoman— someone who put in fifteen years of hard work to get where she is in life—in the same vein as a stripper, adult film star or a reality star is beyond farfetched.

No, I do not know what message a young woman would receive from the First Lady’s praise (and Miss Lucas is entitled to her opinion).

However, I still differ in sentiment with Lucas.

As a young man, what do I see is two women who admire each other. Two women who respect each other and two women who respect each other’s profession.

What I see is the opposite what is displayed “every time a reality show airs.” Their “‘love fest’ is combating the negative images of black women who pull wigs or throw wine bottles.
