#ConversationStarter: Did This Bus Driver Do All He Could?

Bus driver, John Moody, is under fire for what occurred in the video above.

A 13-year-old boy has two black eyes and broken arm and a bus driver is under fire after three 15-year-olds attacked the teen.

The trio says they went after the 13-year-old because he told administrators they tried to sell him drugs.

As the assault takes place the 64-year-old bus driver pleads with the boys to stop but does not physically step in to stop the altercation.

From CNN.com

As the boy is pummeled, the bus driver John Moody yells at the assailants to leave the boy alone.

He also asks dispatchers to send help.

“You gotta get somebody here quick, quick, quick, quick,” he says. “They’re about to beat this boy to death over here.”

“Please get somebody here quick. There’s still doing it,” he adds. “There’s nothing I can do.”

Moody, 64, says he was too afraid to step in.

“The three boys just jumped on him and started pounding on him. And I did all can,” he told CNN affiliate WFLA. “I was looking. It was like I was in shock. I was petrified.

Now some say the Florida bus driver’s pleas were not enough and that he should have stepped in.

Chime in: Do you think he should have stepped in?

Or considering his age and fear for his own safety it was okay for him not to intervene?

What can be done to ensure violence like this doesn’t happen on school buses?

#ConversationStarter: Is this a case of self-defense or ‘walking while black?’

UPDATE 3/15/12: Watch Martin’s steps retraced.

Click the image above to watch GMA's report.

Today’s #ConversationStarter comes out of a gated community in Florida.

Walking from a 7-Eleven to the home of his dad’s fiancee, with a bag of skittles and a can of iced tea, Trayvon Martin, 17, was shot and killed by George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman, 28, was captain of the neighborhood watch and  says he shot in self defense.

Martin was unarmed.

From CNN.com

According to CNN affiliate WFTV, Zimmerman, who is white, described Martin to a dispatcher as a suspicious black man.

Sanford Police Chief Bill Lee said the 911 dispatcher told Zimmerman not to confront Martin, but by the time police arrived, the teenager lay dead with a gunshot wound in the chest. He was carrying a small amount of cash, some candy and an iced tea.

Zimmerman told police he shot Martin in self-defense, but that doesn’t sit well with Martin’s parents.

“When you add it up, it just doesn’t even make sense,” said Ben Crump, the Martin family’s attorney. “Trayvon Martin, a kid, has a bag of Skittles. (Zimmerman) had a 9 mm gun. Trayvon Martin didn’t approach George Zimmerman, George Zimmerman approached Trayvon Martin. So how can he now assert self-defense?”

Police say a gunshot can be heard on the 911 calls recorded that night.

#TalentedTuesday: Julissa Sabino

Julissa Sabino, R&B & Pop Artist

I am starting off #TalentedTuesday with Julissa Sabino.

There are hundreds of artist on the Twitter but something made me take a further look at this Florida native.

I said #TalentedTuesday would be about people who pay for what they want  in sweat.

It would be about people who are making their dreams happen with hard work, determination and dedication.

Miss Sabino is the meaning of the Debbie Allen mantra, “pay for it in sweat.”

Whether covering another artist on YouTube or finding her mask I can tell she loves her craft and is doing what it takes to accomplish her dream.

Sabino’s goal as artist is to be a voice for Generation Y. She recently told her Tumblr followers,  “I just wanna be a voice for my generation. For the 90s kids and I wanna be a light in this very very dark industry.”

When I heard her rendition of Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” I was floored. Her voice is incredible. This alto has big dreams and I have a feeling she is going to make all of them come true.

Readers do not have to take my word for it they can take a listen for themselves.

Sabino has modeled for Teen Vogue, MTV, and BET videos. As well as appeared on stage in productions including a Midsummer’s Night Dream and Peter Pan.

She recently signed with music label 1127 Music Group and is recording her debut album.

(Click here to hear one of Sabino’s songs “Girlfriend.”)

Outside of her beautiful voice she really interacts with her fans and I personally think that sets her apart from most. I could not think of a better artist (on the week of her birthday no less) to start off this new venture on Unscripted Observations. I would love to interview this talented young woman one day.
